Weekly 1-to-1 GCSE tutoring runs from £116 per month (one weekly lesson in one subject) to around £348 per month (three weekly lessons covering combined sciences). Most families land somewhere in the middle — the calculator above shows your exact monthly figure as you adjust the dials. The free 45-minute trial lesson is always £0 and the optional written diagnostic is a one-off £97.

Do you charge for the trial lesson?

Accepted Answer

No. The 45-minute trial is free, no card required, no follow-up sales call. You and your child meet a matched specialist tutor, work on a real piece of GCSE material, and decide afterwards whether to carry on. If you'd rather not, you walk away with a short written summary from the tutor and we don't chase you.

Is the £97 diagnostic compulsory?

No. The diagnostic is an optional add-on for parents who want a deeper picture before committing to weekly lessons. About a third of parents add it at booking, a third add it after the trial, and a third skip it entirely. What if we want to stop after a month?

Accepted Answer

You can. Weekly tutoring is billed monthly with no lock-in contract. Pause or cancel with one week's notice — the conversation goes to our founder directly, not a customer-service queue. You only ever pay for the next month if you've decided to carry on.

Question 5

Do you charge for cancelled sessions?

Accepted Answer

Lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice are rescheduled at no cost. Same-day cancellations or no-shows are charged at the standard lesson rate, because the tutor's time is already blocked. We're flexible on genuine emergencies — just message your tutor or our founder.

How do payments work — monthly or per lesson?

Monthly. Weekly tutoring is invoiced at the start of each calendar month for the lessons in that month. The £97 diagnostic is a one-off charge taken at the time of booking via Stripe (Apple Pay and Google Pay supported). The trial lesson is free and never touches a card.

Is VAT included?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every price quoted on this page is the total you pay. Legacy Academy is a UK-registered company; tutoring fees do not currently attract VAT, and any future change would be applied transparently at the next billing cycle, not retroactively.

What changes the monthly price?

Accepted Answer

Two things: how many lessons per week (one is the baseline; two is common in the run-up to mocks) and which subjects (one subject vs combined sciences vs two separate subjects). All lessons today run online, so there's no travel surcharge to model — the calculator above shows the all-in figure exactly. That all-in monthly fee already includes tutor pay, the shared interactive whiteboard, between-lesson messaging access, the six-weekly written progress review, and direct founder access for parents — no platform fees, no onboarding charges, no separate "materials" line. (When in-person tutoring launches, starting from west London out of our Uxbridge HQ, any travel cost will be quoted openly before you commit — never as a surprise on the invoice.)

Does combined sciences cost more than a single subject?

No. Combined sciences (Biology + Chemistry + Physics covered in the same lesson block) is billed at the same per-lesson basis as any single subject — there's no specialist surcharge or premium tier. The calculator above shows the all-in figure exactly.

Question 10

What do the optional add-ons cover?

Accepted Answer

Two flat monthly add-ons sit on the calculator: monthly progress assessments (+£20/month) for a structured written check-in on where your child is gaining ground, and monthly parent's meetings (+£35/month) for a scheduled call with the tutor and our founder to walk through progress and adjust the plan. Both are optional, can be added or removed month-to-month, and never auto-renew without you toggling them on.

Do you offer sibling or multi-subject discounts?

We don't run a formal discount table because it tends to push parents into buying more than they need. What we do: when you take two subjects with the same tutor, or two children at the same time-slot, we'll quote those engagements honestly — usually about the same monthly figure as a single intensive engagement, which is what the calculator above will show you. How does pricing compare to platforms like MyTutor or GoStudent?

Accepted Answer

MyTutor's GCSE tutors typically charge £26–£40+/hr pay-as-you-go (source: mytutor.co.uk/pricing) — about the same per-lesson rate as Legacy at the lower end, and meaningfully more at the top. GoStudent and Bright Heart sell long-dated packages of 50–100+ lessons paid up front. We don't. Weekly tutoring at Legacy is monthly, transparent, and walkable. Are tutors employees or contractors? Does that change the price?

Accepted Answer

Tutors are independent contractors paid for the lessons they teach — that lets us match on quality (subject specialism, exam-board experience, personality) instead of paying for unused capacity. The per-lesson rate the parent sees on the calculator is the all-in price; tutor pay, platform costs, founder time and refund cover are all baked into that single number.

What's included beyond the weekly lesson?

Direct messaging access to the tutor between lessons (most questions answered within a few hours during the day), founder access for parents on anything that feels off, a six-weekly written progress review, and access to our shared interactive whiteboard for online sessions. The monthly fee is the all-in number — there are no platform fees, no onboarding charges, and nothing auto-renewed without a clear opt-in.

Can we add or drop subjects mid-month?

Yes. We pro-rate the change — you pay the new monthly figure from the next billing cycle, and we'll quote the exact difference on the call before anything changes on the invoice. Adding a subject usually means re-matching to a tutor with cross-subject capability or adding a second tutor; we'll talk you through both routes.

What does the £97 diagnostic actually buy us?

A topic-by-topic written gap analysis across the five core GCSE subjects (Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), an honest read on the grade your child is sitting at right now versus their realistic target, a recommended pace and lesson plan for the next half-term, a 60-minute specialist deep-dive lesson, and a 30-minute parent call with our founder to walk through the findings. What's the refund policy on the £97 diagnostic?

Plain English: if after we've delivered the report and the specialist session you don't feel it gave you genuine new insight, reply to any email from us within 7 days with the word "refund" and we return the £97 in full, no questions asked. Every request is actioned within 48 hours and the funds land in your account on Stripe's standard timeline. Weekly tutoring is billed in advance for each calendar month and can be paused or cancelled with one week's notice ahead of the next billing month — full refund text lives on /refund.

Do you require a deposit before the first weekly lesson?

No. The first month of weekly tutoring is invoiced at the start of that month for the lessons taking place in it. There's no separate deposit, no upfront package purchase, and no admin fee. The free trial and (if added) £97 diagnostic are the only things that happen before weekly lessons start.
